| When
taking photographs of local people please first ask their
permission and respect their wishes. All you need do is hold
up your camera first and wait for a response. Older people
often do not wish to be photographed, but generally the Nepalese
are very good-natured about it. We suggest that you purchase
your film or cards before leaving home. Film is available
in Kathmandu, but it is often out of date and poorly stored.
Print and digital film processing is available in Kathmandu,
but may not be of good quality.
Nepal affords unparalleled opportunity
for photography. Ensure that you are familiar with your camera
well before your trek. For people with SLRs we recommend a
zoom lens to enable you to photograph anything from faces
to mountains. UV and Polarizing filters are also highly recommended.
Ensure that you have enough film - it is always better to
over estimate film stocks than miss out. For the keen photographer,
a roll a day would be the average usage. A small camera cleaning
kit is also a good idea. Ensure that your camera battery is
strong and bring a spare. If you wish to take a video camera,
please be aware that you may be unable to re-charge batteries
once you are outside Kathmandu and that a fee is often levied
to use your video camera in specific places such as temples
or national parks. These charges can be very high.
