EMERGENCY
EVACUATION
There are occasions when we may need to evacuate
a trekker for safety or health reasons. There are two categories
of evacuation.
Walk out. If you are unable to continue with
the planned itinerary but are not at any risk, you will be
offered alternatives such as a shorter route or early return
to Kathmandu. The cost of this will be small, but it must
be met by you and then later claimed on your insurance if
applicable. Please check with your insurer prior to departure
to ensure you are clear on what is and what is not covered.
Exchanging your traveler’s checks for rupees before
the trek to cover this rare occurrence on trek is not viable
for most people, as it leaves them with surplus rupees when
it is time to leave Nepal. You can avoid this by taking $100
in small denomination notes with you on the trek.
Helicopter Evacuation. Evacuation by helicopter
is not a common event. Problems with acclimatization due to
altitude gain are rare because our trek is scheduled at a
gradual and proven rate of climb.
If you need to be evacuated by helicopter we
will make the initial payment to the helicopter company in
Kathmandu. Helicopter costs can be as high as $3000. It is
important that you have the credit card capacity or other
means to cover this amount. You may also have to meet other
costs, such as additional nights in Kathmandu, if choosing
a helicopter evacuation. Insurance companies will sometimes
refund your evacuation in accordance with their terms and
conditions.
Please also note that if you need to leave
Kathmandu on a flight that is different to that appearing
on your ticket, additional charges (up to the price of the
ticket) may be charged by the airline, as most tickets are
unchangeable once ticketed.
