Nepal's environment is extremely fragile. Its rapidly increasing population is putting incredible pressure on the country's environment and resources, and it is our responsibility as visitors to minimize the impact of our presence. Deforestation is Nepal's greatest environmental problem. We do not have camp fires and we strongly discourage trekkers from buying wood-fueled hot showers in tea-houses / lodges along the trail. Many lodges use solar heated water systems. Try to save your long, hot-water runs for those lodges. We also recommend that participants refrain from purchasing locally made wooden walking sticks when in Nepal as they also contribute to deforestation.

Disposal of Rubbish
We recommend that each trekker keep a small plastic bag in their daypack to collect personal rubbish during the day. Any non-burnable or non-biodegradables – such as batteries and plastic bottles - should be kept and taken back to Kathmandu.
